Bangalore India - Should I go or not?

Question: I have the opportunity to do an internship in Bangalore, India, but I'm getting cold feet about going to a country so alien to my own. Should I go?

Answer : Yes, Yes and thrice yes. I've spent a total of maybe a year or so traveling around India and while Bangalore wasn't the highlight of my trip I'd personally love the opportunity to do an internship there. Why? Because I've since lived and worked in other Asian countries and found that living in a county really does give you a much deeper insight into the people and the culture than just passing through. Even if you hate your time there (which you surely won't if you have an adventurous bone in your body) it'll be an experience you'll never forget and a chance to understand a bit about a culture which is very removed from your own.

Incidentally, although I'm sure that if this is your first visit to India you will certainly suffer some degree of culture shock, Bangalore itself is one of the more cosmopolitan cities in India and this should make your transition in lifestyle a little smoother. The city has several western style bars and restaurants and generally the people of Bangalore seem more cosmopolitan than in other cities. It seemed to me a very westernized city (compared to the rest of the country). I just passed through a few times though. You'll be living there and will be able to speak with a lot more authority than I.
