Sir
As with most western nationalities, being British you are given
60 days entry upon arrival in Malaysia-no need to get a visa in
advance. Of course this is down to the individual immigration officer
as at every border but I'm sure if you mention the colony bit they'll
be no problems.
There is also an interesting notice up somewhere at Pedang Besar,
where you'll probably enter if you travel by train you might take
note of. Right next to the Dada (Drugs) is death sign is a notice
along the lines of No sandals, unruly long hair on men, dirty clothes
or shorts. It stops short of banning flowers in your hair and flares
but it seems a bit of a throw back and is quite amusing. In reality
I've never seen anyone stopped for this reason on countless trips
so they can't really stick to it as some people tromp through in
a right state, as you'd expect I suppose after 20 odd hours on a
train.
Oh and it depends on the state for your G and T. Some of the stricter
Muslim states ban Alcohol altogether while others have plenty of
bars. Imagine my shock when arriving dusty and dry throated in Kota
Baru and asking the nearest person I could find where the nearest
bar was?
"But Mr. In Kota Baru there are no Bars"
My own fault should have done my research. Luckily I had half a
bottle of SangThip, the good old Thai Rum to tide me over a couple
of nights
