Asia Travel FAQ: Thai-Malay Border

Question:Where's a good place to relax at the Thai-Malay border?

Answer : Have you considered the Perhentian islands? To my mind these seem to fit your criteria almost perfectly and are pretty easy to get to being just a boat ride from Kuala Besut. The beaches there are stunning and there is a range of accommodation available. There’s also the added bonus of some truly excellent snorkeling and scuba opportunities. The only disadvantage is that, due to the monsoon, they are pretty much inaccessible from November to January. I suppose the beaches would look pretty crappy then anyway. Although there is a certain something to watching the rain hit the sea from your bamboo beach bungalow the rough seas through up all kind of rubbish and seaweed onto the beach. The difference to the appearance of a beach during the rainy season and then again after the rains have passed is remarkable.
