Answer
: I'd recommend staying on White Sands for a night when you first
get there just to rest up (most jeeps etc. from the port are going
to take you there anyway) and then rent a motorbike to check out
the rest of the island if it's not to you're liking-many find it
too hectic and busy. That way you can find just what you're looking
for. There are lots of those picture-perfect beaches with the overhanging
palm tees etc that have just one bungalow operation and give you
a chance to really get away from it all. Sorry, but apart from Lonely
Beach, which has many good reports for its tranquility and beauty,
I can't be more specific on beaches… just can't remember any
names...the place with the tree huts looked really cool though...
White sands beach itself, Hat Sai Cow, is long with warm, shallow
and amazingly clear water. The main hub of tourist activity, it
has pretty much everything you might need; general stores, motorcycle
hire, a small medical clinic, internet cafes, book stores and a
range of restaurants serving both Thai and western cuisine. Unfortunately
its becoming very developed now hence my advice to head a bit further
afield if its quiet you're after.
