This question is oft asked and difficult to answer. It really depends
on what kind of lifestyle you want to enjoy. At the top end then
you can really spend as much as in any Western country if you have
it but more realistically I'd say that 40,000 Baht a month would
give you a pretty luxurious life style; enough to rent yourself
a decent place to stay, eat well and go out for a drink or more
at night (as long as it isn't all night every night). At the other
end of the scale if you're prepared to go budget, stay in one place
for a while before moving on, and stick to simple Thai food you
could easily live on 20,000 or less a month. Perhaps somewhere between
the two would be about right for most people?
