Dress Code For Tourists In Thailand

Question: Will I be offending any Thais if I wear shortish skirts and cargo shorts in Thailand?

Answer : As far as shorts or cargo skirts go, there really isn't a problem. You won't be thought any the less of, offend anyone and will probably blend right in. Can't imagine your skirts being any shorter than those worn by many fashion conscious youngsters in the city!

The exception of course is temples and government buildings where conservative wear is necessary for entering the building (temples) and getting any kind of respect (Government buildings)

What is important if you don't want to be looked down upon, is that your clothes are clean and tidy. Most Thais are very fastidious and themselves are usually careful to appear as well dressed as possible. And most definitely clean.

The amount of tourists I've seen walking round dressed like tramps / clowns in the mistaken belief that they....actually I don't know why they think that they should leave any kind of dress code at the airport.

Unless they plan to spend the whole time on Kao San road or the beach then sarongs, clown trousers, lurid green tops woven by some hill tribe (or more likely a factory on the outskirts of Bangkok)etc. just look ridiculous to the majority of people.
Anyway enough already Joel, the shorts and skirt are fine. Enjoy your trip
