Answer
: Check with your embassy but most E.U citizens, and I believe Americans,
get 30 days in Thailand upon arrival in the country, no visa required.
If you intend staying longer you can of course just leave the country
when your 30 days are up and come straight back in again with another
30 days visa. No problem. Or you could apply for a 60 day tourist
visa in your home country. This can be extended for a further month
in Thailand. If you overstay your visa you have to pay 200 baht
per day overstayed at the airport or border up to a maximum of,
I believe 20,000 baht or it could be 40,000. It’s no problem
if you have the money. I've done it myself several times. However,
it's not to be advised because if for some reason you have to show
your passport to the police while in the country and you've overstayed
your visa, you're in BIG TROUBLE. You go to jail.
