The Grand Palace, near Sanam Luang in Banglampoo

Next to the river and near Banglampoo, the palace is a fine example of Thai architecture with numerous statues, and intricate murals depicting the Ramakean. In the same compound is Wat Pra Kaow Temple with the famous Emerald Buddha.

Wat Pho Temple, near the Grand Palace

A short Taxi ride from the Grand Place, this temple houses the huge reclining Buddha. Not to be missed. 

Wat Arun Temple, Thonburi

This temple is on the other side of the river from most tourist attractions but is well worth a visit. In the grounds of this temple is a very tall tower. If you have the nerve, you can climb up for a birds eye view of Bangkok..

Vimanmek Teak Mansion, between Sri Ayutthaya and Ratjathewi roads near Dusit Zoo

The old home of King Rama the Fifth, this is another fine example of Thai architecture with lovely quiet grounds. Made entirely from teak, Vimanmek also has daily Thai dancing and boxing shows. 

Jatujak Market, next to Mor Chit Sky Train station

The granddaddy of all markets with over 10, 000 small stalls and shops tightly packed along a maze of small streets and alleys. Whatever you want, you’ll find it here.

Pantip Plaza, Phetburi Road

Very cheap computer hardware.

Floating Market, Khlong Chanam Chai

An early start is necessary but any travel agent will arrange tours to see the many small boats selling fresh fruit, vegetables, noodles etc.

Baiyoke Tower, Pratunam

The third tallest building in the world, Baiyoke tower has a viewing area on the top floor complete with telescope. Marvelous views across the city. Also near Pratunum Shopping Market selling mainly clothes at wholesale prices (a lot of haggling needed though).
